NSW Bureau of Crime Statistics and Research figures reveal drug hot spots across the state

CLANDESTINE labs and drug deals are not just limited to Sydney’s roughest suburbs, with new statistics revealing a plethora of arrests all across the state. Find out the worst areas and see how your suburb stacks up with our interactive. HERE’S HOW YOUR AREA STACKS UP.

Police Seize Drugs, Guns and Cash in Sydney Sting

PYRMONT is Sydney’s cocaine capital, while festival locations have more than four times the amount of ecstasy-related arrests than other popular night-life districts across the city.

These are only just some of the findings of Sydney’s drug-related arrests revealed from NSW Bureau of Crime Statistics and Research figures recorded over the last financial year.

The Daily Telegraph has broken down arrests for manufacturing, importing and the dealing/trafficking of drugs across the state to see how widespread the issue has become.

MANUFACTURING OF DRUGS

The southwestern Sydney suburb of Bankstown and west Sydney’s Merrylands are the worst locations in terms of the manufacturing of drugs, with both recording four arrests each.

Jamisontown and Mount Pritchard had two manufacturing arrests, while Redfern, Blacktown, Liverpool, Parramatta, Port Macquarie, Dubbo, Cessnock, Campsie, Kogarah, Cabramatta West and Wetherill Park were among suburbs with one.

CULTIVATION OF CANNABIS

Broken Head is a suburb located in the Northern Rivers region of New South Wales.

It also recorded the highest amount of arrests for the cultivation of cannabis, with a total of 10 over the last financial year.

The Mid North Coast’s Taree and Lismore’s suburb Goonellabah also proved to be hot spots for the cultivation of cannabis with nine arrests during the same time.

Port Macquarie and Greenacre closely follow with eight arrests, while Nimbin, Sanctuary Point and Chipping Norton recorded seven, respectively.

IMPORTATION OF DRUGS

In addition to the drugs manufactured across the state, there are also a number of cases where people have been caught importing illegal substances.

Darlinghurst saw 11 arrests for the importation of drugs, while Sydney’s city centre followed with seven.

Coastal town Ulladulla was next with three arrests, while Penrith and Alexandria had two.

DEALING/TRAFFICKING IN NARCOTICS

The suburbs surrounding Sydney’s CBD appear to be the hub for the city’s narcotic trade, with Glebe and Potts Point having 14 arrests for dealing/trafficking of narcotics.

Waterloo closely followed with 12.

DEALING/TRAFFICKING IN COCAINE

The inner-city suburb of Darlinghurst was the hotspot for dealers of Sydney’s cocaine trade, with 99 arrests made for dealing/trafficking of the highly addictive stimulant.

Sydney’s CBD closely followed with 91 arrests for dealing/trafficking of coke, while Surry Hills recorded 79.

Police arrested two men and seized approximately 1kg of MDMA, capable of producing approximately 4,000 tablets with an estimated street value of $200,000, half a kilo of cocaine with an estimated street value of $400,000, a large amount of prescription medication, a large amount of steroids, cash, a hydraulic press and other items believed to have been used in the manufacture of illegal drugs.

DEALING/TRAFFICKING IN CANNABIS

When it comes to dealing/trafficking in Cannabis, Parkes is easily the worst location in NSW with 62 arrests from July 2017 to June 2018.

Comparatively, Flinders, Minto and Leeton were the closest with 23, 21 and 20, respectively.

Waterloo was inner Sydney’s worst location with 18 arrests.

DEALING/TRAFFICKING IN AMPHETAMINES

The worst locations for dealing/trafficking in amphetamines are split across regional and metropolitan areas with Albury topping the list, recording 121 arrests.

Seaside suburb Warilla and Sydney’s Redfern saw 98 and 92 arrests, while Waterloo recorded 62.

DEALING/TRAFFICKING IN ECSTASY

Similar to the high number of arrests for possession/and or use of ecstasy, popular festival locations also dominate figures for dealing/trafficking.

Sydney’s city centre and Darlinghurst both had 45 arrests for dealing/trafficking of ecstasy, while Olympic Park was close behind with 37.

DEALING/TRAFFICKING IN OTHER DRUGS

Minto tops the list for dealing/trafficking in other drugs, with 27 arrests.

Bondi Junction was next with 18 arrests, while Darlinghurst and Ballina both recorded 17.
