A man who sent a “death threat” to a Sydney Jewish organisation in the days after the October 7 attacks in Israel has been released back into the public, after spending a year behind bars.
Nour Mohamed was released from Parklea Correctional Centre on Saturday morning after being convicted of one federal charge of using a carriage service to threaten to kill, and a second federal charge of using a carriage service to menace or harass.
Mohamed was sentenced to two years behind bars after he sent an image of a journalist in orange clothing about to be beheaded by ISIS to the Executive Council of Australian Jewry’s Instagram on October 11, 2023, alongside a message stating “we are coming for you, from Western Sydney”.
The image depicted a hooded Islamic State member with a knife alongside the captive man just seconds before he was beheaded.
Mohamed served out 53 weeks behind bars before being released.
A spokesman for the Jewish Board of Deputies said “we note that Nour Mohamed has now been released from custody and implore law enforcement to ensure that the terms of his release will be strictly enforced”.
“Ominous threats to behead or otherwise physically target members of the Australian community should not be taken lightly,” the spokesman said.
