A Northern Beaches street has had an unexpected drenching on one of the hottest days of the year.
With the mercury hovering in the mid 30s, resident on Attunga St, Newport, copped a midmorning shower after a water main burst.
No homes were damaged but a large hole was left in the middle of the road.
NSW Fire and Rescue Acting Superintendent Rob Jansen said the pipe burst just after 10am.
“We only had one truck attend the street. The water supply has been greatly reduced. The main water supply was shut down,” he said.
“There was some damage to the road surface. There has not been any damage to nearby properties and the water has run away mostly.”
Sydney Water are investigating how the pipe burst.
