A WAG and former flight attendant has been appointed to one of the highest state roles in the United Australia Party.
Nicole Smeltz, wife of former A-League football star Shane Smeltz, is now the NSW assistant director for billionaire Clive Palmer’s United Australia Party, despite having no political experience.
One of her duties as state assistant director included appearing in Palmer’s latest ad.

In an ad publicised about a week ago Smeltz speaks to the camera in front of a “Make Australia Great” banner:
“$55 thousand million (sic) on the NBN, $200 million on the drought, nothing to feed our livestock, nothing to support our community. Time for action and practical solutions. Vote 1 United Australia Party.”
The Daily Telegraph has reached out to the United Australia Party to find out what the rest of Smeltz’s duties will be during the campaign.
Describing the reasons for Smeltz’s appointment, a spokesman for the party said she brought a “passion for politics” and a strong skill set to the role.
The first achievement the spokesman noted was Ms Smeltz’s marriage to former A League footballer Shane Smeltz, who retired last year.
They continue to mention her “extensive” work in event management and in real estate.
Her longest roles were in airlines, as a first and business class cabin crew member with Qantas, and in “airline operations” with Emirates and Etihad.
The mother of two’s Linkedin echoed this list of credentials, listing working in Qantas business class, as a lounge agent for Emirates and Etihad.
Smeltz said she was excited to be appointed assistant NSW state director for the United Australia Party and gushed over her new boss’ direction.
“I have always had a love of politics and I am very excited to be part of the United Australia Party.
“Clive Palmer is a very passionate Australian who is willing to give back to fellow Australians. Together we can achieve the extraordinary,’’ she said.
Suellen Wrightson was also appointed as an assistant state director, having campaigned as a Federal Senate candidate for the then Palmer United Party in 2013 and serving as an elected member of the Cessnock City Council from 2012-2015.
