Nathan Tinkler charged with allegedly smashing window

BANKRUPT billionaire Nathan Tinkler will be back in court next week after being charged for allegedly smashing his sister’s window.

BANKRUPT billionaire Nathan Tinkler will be back in court next week after being charged for allegedly smashing his sister’s window.

The beleaguered boganaire’s latest legal issues come just days after his creditors refused to accept his latest settlement offer of $1 million to have his bankruptcy revoked — meaning he could now lose his last piece of property.

Police allege the 41-year-old was at his sister Donna Dennis and her husband Lindsay’s house in Kendall, on the mid-north coast near Port Macquarie at about 8.15pm on December 28.

After speaking to somebody at the home, police allege Mr Tinkler broke a window then left.

He was arrested a little while later at 10.45pm at a home in nearby Rossglen.

“(Mr Tinkler) was taken to Port Macquarie police station and charged with destroy or damage property, and granted conditional bail to appear at Port Macquarie local court on Wednesday, January 24,” a NSW Police spokeswoman said.

Police have also applied for an apprehended violence order against the former mining magnate on behalf of Mr Tinkler’s brother-in law Lindsay Dennis, which will also be heard in court on the same date.

It follows a rough few weeks for the fallen business titan, with his offer of less than 0.2 cents in the dollar to his settle $553.8 million debit to creditors — including the Australian Taxation Office as well as global investment banks — being turned down.

“Mr Tinkler did propose another deed of composition in late December, there was a meeting of creditors, and unfortunately creditors at that meeting resolved not to accept that proposal,” Ferrier Hodgson partner Robyn Duggan said.

Mr Tinkler was once one of Australia’s top tycoons, a billionaire who owned hundreds of racehorses, a fleet of luxury cars, a private jet and two sport teams — the Newcastle Knights and the Newcastle Jets.

But his empire began to crumble in 2014.

Mr Tinkler was eventually declared bankrupt in March 2016 claiming to just have $2000 in his bank account and the small rural property at Rossglen worth about $665,000.

Ms Duggan said now that Deloitte had sold Mr Tinkler’s former horse stud, Patinack Farm for $15 million, the bankruptcy trustee could seize ownership of the Rossglen property.

“The trustee and bankruptcy now holds the certificate of title for that property and it is now an asset which is available for sale for the benefit of his creditors in his bankruptcy,” she said.

Ms Duggan said Mr Tinkler could then be hauled back before the courts to explain his financial status in more detail.

“It could involve an examination of parties associated with the bankrupt and the bankrupt himself in relation to his examinable affairs,” she said.

Mr Tinkler did not return calls yesterday.
