Blue Mountains mother Trish Smith charged with murder after boys, Russell, Ben Smith found dead in Blue Mountains home

A woman has been charged with two counts of murder after two boys were found dead in a Blue Mountains home.

Blue Mountains mother Trish Smith has been charged with the murder of her two boys, Russell and Ben Smith, three days after their bodies were found in their Blue Mountains family home.

NSW Police and paramedics were called to the Smith family residence on Chapman Pde, Faulconbridge, following a report for a concern for welfare of a woman and two children, around midday on September 10.

Trish Smith has been charged with two counts of murder.

Police will allege in court that the bodies of two boys, aged nine and eleven, were found inside the home by the boys’ father, Nick before he contacted emergency services.

The 42-year-old woman was also located in the home with multiple stab wounds, before she was treated by paramedics and taken to Westmead Hospital under police guard in a critical but stable condition.

Officers from Blue Mountains Police Area Command established a crime scene and commenced an investigation as the wider community gathered to pay tribute to the two young boys.

On Friday evening Ms Smith was released from hospital before being taken to Parramatta Police Station where she was charged with two counts of murder (DV).

She has been refused bail to appear at Parramatta Local Court on Saturday.

In a statement on Thrusday, the father of Rseell and Ben Smith said “the loss of our two beautiful boys has caused unimaginable pain and distress”.

“Russell and Ben were happy, funny, outgoing boys, and were very much loved by their family and friends,” he said.

“Like other boys their age, they loved sports, soccer, the Penrith Panthers, fishing, books, music, spending time with their friends and Max their pup.

“We cannot understand how our boys have been taken this way and we appreciate the kindness and compassion shown by the community.”

On Wednesday, NSW Police Commissioner Karen Webb said as the investigation is in its “early stages”, she could not confirm the circumstances leading up to the deaths.

“Obviously it’s a very tragic scene,” she said.

“It is early stages and we’re not prepared to speculate on that at this stage.

“We’ve got all our investigators looking at the background and what has actually happened at that location.”

Neighbours told the Daily Telegraph throughout the week they were shocked at the deaths, with one resident of the “usually very quiet street” saying she would often see the seemingly happy Smith brothers riding their bikes up the street.

“I can’t believe this has happened on my street,” another local woman said. “I have seen the boys on their bikes around the street and I’m in total shock.”
