Roc, who enjoyed this week getting dirty in his enclosure, is the eighth lion to call the south coast zoo home.

Rolling around and playing with mum the new cat in town is slowly getting used to, and loving, his new surroundings.

“Every day he comes to life more and more,” zookeeper Chad Staples said.

“He has been have a great time in the rain … and the mud.”

“People think you can’t tell them apart and they all look the same but he has just got this attitude that he knows he is going to be a 200kg cat one day”.

Roc is the second of the litter of Mogo matriarch Chitwa, who arrived at the zoo from Africa in 2014.

His arrival marks a huge milestone for the zoo that managed to survive the horror south coast fires in 2019 thanks to staff who battled the flames to keep the animals safe.
