Police were called to end a protest against the Israel-Gaza war which briefly shut down NSW Parliament on Wednesday.
A small group of pro-Palestinian protesters was booted from Parliament’s public gallery after interrupting question time with shouts of “shame on you Australia” and “shame on you Chris Minns”.
The group called for the Australian government to call for a ceasefire in Gaza.
“F**k you Chris Minns,” one protester chanted.
The protesters unfurled a banner which read “end the occupation, free Palestine”.
“There is an immediate threat and the immediate threat is in Gaza,” one protester shouted.
Speaker Greg Piper ordered the protesters out of the public gallery, before calling NSW Police Special Constables to remove them.
Greens MP Jenny Leong congratulated the protesters which shut down parliament on social media.
“Solidarity to members of Palestinian community who disrupted NSW Question Time today urging Premier and all MPs to not look away from the horrific genocide in Gaza. Millions are starving,” she posted.
“When leaders fail to act, people will take direct action to make them to (sic) listen.”
The parliamentary broadcast was briefly paused while protesters were removed.
Question Time resumed after about five minutes.
