Meet Fire and Rescue NSW’s cutest new recruit

Maybe people can’t teach an old dog new tricks but Fire and Rescue NSW found the old dog can teach a young pup.

They say you can’t teach an old dog new tricks – but it turns out you can get the old dog to teach a young pup.

Fire and Rescue NSW has learnt this lesson after pairing up their newest recruit Siren, a Brittany spaniel puppy, with their oldest and wisest dog, Gandalf the labrador.

Thirteen-week-old Siren will be tasked with sniffing out accelerants to discover the cause of suspicious fires.

It’s the first time in the team’s history that they have employed the Brittany breed.

“The labradors have served us very well, but you don’t know what you don’t know,” head of the Canine Team Tim Garrett said. “Siren showed incredible enthusiasm and determination during testing.

“Gandalf is teaching him tricks. Him following the footsteps of Gandalf is very amusing to watch.”
