The owner of a McLaren supercar says he was in “complete shock” when he arrived home last night to find his luxury car well alight – with police now treating the blaze as suspicious.
Hamed Ajaje returned to his Sefton home around 11.20pm last night, to find his McLaren 570S on fire as it sat outside his Rodd Street home.
“I didn’t think it was my car to be honest, the closer I got I was just in shock,” he said.
“The tyre blew and the fire just exploded.”
NSW Fire and Rescue crews rushed to the scene and extinguished the blaze – however the car was totally destroyed.
Police have deemed the fire is suspicious and have launched an investigation into who started the blaze and why.
Mr Ajaje, a local builder, said he couldn’t think of anyone who would target him or his family.
“I don’t think there is anyone who has it out for us, I think it was a childish act,” he said.
“No one dislikes us, everyone knows us, we are good people. I can’t put it together.”
Mr Ajaje had listed the car for sale in recent weeks – and said while it is usually parked in the garage, he moved it to the street due to the number of inquiries he had received.
“People have been calling to have a look so I put it out on the street,” he said.
“I didn’t think something like this would happen.”
It’s estimated the car was worth more than $330,000 on the resale market.
As inquiries continue, police are urging anyone who may have knowledge of the matter – or was in the area at the time with any available dashcam/mobile phone footage – to contact Bankstown Police Station or Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000.
