Matt Damon spotted enjoying drinks at The Paddington in Sydney

Hollywood star Matt Damon was spotted at a Sydney pub on Wednesday, where he told The Daily Telegraph about his love of Australia and the progress of filming for the Thor movie.

Hollywood A-lister Matt Damon was spotted alongside his wife mingling with locals at a pub in Sydney’s inner city on Wednesday, where he told The Daily Telegraph about his love of Australia.

The celebrity, who is Down Under filming ‘Thor: Love and Thunder,’ joined a group of six people, including his Argentinian wife Luciana Barroso, for drinks at Merivale’s The Paddington on Oxford Street.

An all-black-wearing Damon appeared laid-back with friends as he enjoyed drinks at a window side table facing onto the busy street, seemingly unfazed by the hordes of starstruck locals who saw the Academy Award winner.

Damon was friendly with fellow publicans and posed for a selfie with two female patrons, with one of them describing the star as a “lovely” and “friendly” person.

“We just walked in and saw him… I’m from New York and we see celebrities every day, but to see him in Australia was a surprise,” she said.

As the actor strolled out of the pub clutching his wife’s hand, he told The Daily Telegraph he was a big fan of Australia, saying “I love it here.”

And he might have taken up temporary residency to shoot Thor, but he did rule out ever moving here long-term, saying “I don’t think so,” when asked if he loved Australia enough to make the big move.

This is despite speculation the pair might buy a property near Chris Hemsworth and Elsa Pataky in Byron Bay after Damon and his wife in 2013 visited the pair in the seaside town. Damon was also in 2014 believed to have purchased Blackwood House at Broken Head, before reportedly selling it for $4 million.

The star chose to keep the progress of the fourth Thor blockbuster, which is now in its second month of production, largely under wraps, but did give a clue about its progress, saying that filming was “good.”

It comes after the Hollywood star, aged 50, was last Thursday seen shooting scenes on the elaborate set of Thor at Little Bay in Sydney’s east alongside Luke Hemsworth and Melissa McCarthy.

He touched down in Australia with his wife and daughters Isabella, 14, Gia, 12 and Stella, 10, in mid-January, where they began their 14-day quarantine in a Byron Bay mansion and Damon released a statement about his trip.

“I’m so excited that my family and I will be able to call Australia home for the next few months,” the actor said. “Australian film crews are world-renowned for their professionalism and are a joy to work with so the 14 days of quarantine will be worth it.

“Australia definitely is the lucky country and I can’t wait to show my family Australia’s down to earth people, breathtaking scenery and diverse culture.”
