Matt Damon draws inspiration from film Step Brothers after his racehorse Dale’s debut loss

Matt Damon has drawn inspiration from the film Step Brothers to dismiss the disappointing debut of the racehorse he part-owns. Read his response.

Matt Damon has drawn inspiration from a hit Hollywood movie comedy to dismiss the disappointing debut of his racehorse, “Dale”, at Randwick’s Kensington meeting earlier this week.

With the Oscar-winning actor as a part-owner, there was a lot of media hype on Dale going into his first start only for the juvenile to finish sixth.

Damon watched the race in New York and sent trainer Paul Messara a text soon after Dale’s unplaced effort.

“We all know Dale gets his ‘s. t’ together later in life. Great work, PM, we are on the journey,’’ read Damon’s text.

Dale, the racehorse, was named after a character in the movie, Step Brothers, which starred Will Ferrell and John C. Reilly.

Damon and his 17-year-old daughter have watched Step Brothers together many times and when the actor asked Messara to buy him a racehorse, there was one stipulation – it had to be called “Dale”.

Messara admitted he expected more from Dale on debut but revealed Damon took the loss on the chin.

“The one thing about Matt Damon is he doesn’t know he is Matt Damon,’’ Messara said.

“He’s the loveliest bloke and he just wants to enjoy the fun and banter that goes with owning a racehorse.’’

Damon has played starring roles in blockbusters like Oppenheimer, The Martian, Saving Private Ryan, Good Will Hunting, the Jason Bourne and Ocean’s trilogies, The Talented Mr Ripley, The Departed and Ford v Ferrari. His movies have earned nearly $4 billion at the North American box office making him one of the highest-grossing actors of all time.

Messara said he expects Damon will one day want to make the trip down under to watch Dale race in person.

“Hopefully, Dale can run in a decent race and I’m sure Matt will come out for it,’’ he said.
