THE killers of Sydney Rebels bikie member Mark Easter thought they were dumping his body in remote bushland far away from prying eyes but what they didn’t know was secret council cameras were filming their every move.

The cameras, hidden in trees to catch illegal rubbish dumpers, snapped images of a white van allegedly used to transport the body of the 37-year-old Rebels sergeant at arms driving into bushland off the Pacific Highway at Cowan north of Sydney at 3.27am, on June 29, last year.

The same van was filmed driving past the camera in the opposite direction just seven minutes later after police alleged they dumped the body.

The release of the images comes as police investigate links between three unsolved murders of Sydney crime figures Easter, fellow Rebels bikie member Michael Davey and another man, Mehmet Yilma who was an associate of the Comanchero.

Police believe the murders bear striking similarities to each other in the way they were carried out particularly, the types of cars used and the way they were filmed driving to and from the hits in convoy.

Davey was shot in his driveway in Kingswood on March 30 this year and Yilmaz, 29, was shot getting into his car just moments after leaving the home of a Comanchero bikie in St Marys, on September 9.

An unrelated fourth hit on mafia drug figure and eastern suburbs crook Pasquale Barbaro on November 11 was carried out in a similar fashion.

In Yilma’s murder a silver Commodore station wagon was seen in a convoy with a black WRX similar to one used in the shooting of Barbaro in Earlwood.

In the murder of Davey, a white van, a Toyota Hiace van and a white Audi appear to be travelling together.

Four men will appear in Burwood Local Court today charged with Barbaro’s murder. Over the past 18 months detectives from the homicide squad have been going through thousands of hours of CCTV footage to put together the links.

State Crime Commander, Assistant Commissioner Mark Jenkins, said police are targeting these investigations on a variety of fronts.

“The homicide squad has released these images as they continue to pursue a number of lines of inquiry, which is being complimented by the ongoing targeting of organised crime groups by officers from across State Crime Command,” Assistant Commissioner Jenkins said.

“Another part of the investigation is focusing on the links between organised crime groups, as well as those who associate with — and between — the groups.

“While we understand there are people who may have reservations about coming forward, I urge them to think carefully about that decision.

“It’s better to come see us before we come for you.”

Detectives are appealing for information from the community as investigations into a number of underworld murders across Sydney continue.

Strike Force Osprey was established by the State Crime Command’s Homicide Squad to oversee a number of ongoing investigations into eight fatal shootings over the last 18 months.
