Manly: Family escapes burning home on Sydney’s northern beaches

A family has escaped a burning house after flames engulfed the newly renovated home in Manly on Sunday morning.
Firefighters were called to the Sydney Rd residence just after 8am when neighbours saw flames leaping from the top level of the northern beaches home.
The occupants managed to escape the burning house, and were being cared for by neighbours while fire crews battled the blaze.
Plumes of smoke could be seen from the city and across the northern beaches, and roads around the area were closed off to traffic while the blaze was brought under control.
NSW Fire and Rescue investigators are on scene looking at the cause of the blaze which gutted the top floor an parts of the ground level.
