SHOT in the chest and hand, Domino’s pizza shop worker Anand Singh stumbled to a nearby police station in a desperate bid to save his own life at 1.45am this morning.
An armed robber shot the 21-year-old after demanding cash from the Wentworthville takeaway joint.
The gunman fled on foot and remains on the loose, with police not yet certain whether he escaped with any money.
But his attack has left Singh in a serious condition in Westmead Hospital.
Rather than wait for an ambulance Singh, closely followed by a fellow Domino’s staff member, stumbled around the corner to Wentworthville train station, up a ramp and stairs and over the tracks to the nearby police station.
The agonising journey, which likely took less than four minutes, was captured on CCTV and showed his friend trying to call for help on his phone.
Police treated Singh and called paramedics.
Detectives have spoken to his co-worker but have not yet had an opportunity to formally interview Singh in hospital.
“It’s quite amazing in fact that he was able to walk and seek assistance,” Granville Police Inspector Matthew Hyde said.
“He’s an extremely brave young person but from a policing perspective we would encourage people, if they are confronted by an armed offender to comply with their demands.”
Insp Hyde said the attack on Singh, who was “just going about his daily duties trying to earn a living” should serve as a warning to all small businesses which operate late at night.
Police are scouring Domino’s and surrounding businesses for CCTV images of the offender.
The gunman was described as male, caucasian, in his mid-20s and wearing a dark hooded jacket.
