A YOUNG man was chased down and stabbed to death in the driveway of a stranger’s home in Sydney’s west on Saturday night.
George Garmo, 20, was at a friend’s house in Bossley Park when it’s believed he got into in an altercation with at least two other men, who then followed him to a nearby street and allegedly stabbed him to death.
The owner of the home on Garnet St, who did not know Mr Garmo, returned about 11.20pm to find his lifeless body in a pool of blood behind his work van.
He told how the attackers jumped into his backyard from a neighbouring property, leaving a trail of blood through his yard and on to the driveway.
“As soon as I got half way up the house, the sensor lights turned on and I saw a body,” homeowner Carlos said.
“I ran to my nephew down the road to stop, I said ‘there’s someone dead outside the house’. He was pale, there was blood everywhere, his eyes were rolled. It was pretty bad. The police knew who he was.”
Forensic expert were called as police closed off several streets as they combed the area for the attackers. A neighbour told detectives she spotted the two wanted men flee the crime scene before driving off at high speed in a black car.
Friends of Mr Garmo arrived moments later and were shaken by the tragedy.
“It’s very sad, he was a nice guy,” said one friend who knew Mr Garmo from high school.
“We just live around the corner and came as soon as we heard.”
Other friends paid tribute to the young man on Facebook, describing him as a “kind, very loyal” friend.
“A brother got murdered last night. A very close brother. RIP Gwar Garmo. Supposed to spend last night with me my brother,” Rich le said. “God took a soldier. See you on the other side my brother.”
Dozens of relatives gathered at Mr Garmo’s parents’ home about 10 minutes from the scene of the stabbing yesterday, but were too distressed to speak.
Superintendent Peter Lennon said the people living in the house did not appear to be involved or know the dead man.
“It just appears to be the place where he fell and unfortunately died,” Supt Lennon said.
The victim has not been formally identified but he is believed to be known to police.
Detectives from the Homicide Squad and Fairfield Police were continuing inquiries last night and appealed for anyone with information to call Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000.
