Man forced into car and found with gunshot wounds

A man was shot four times and abducted in Sydney’s south west in what Bankstown Police are calling a targeted crime.

A man was abducted and forced into a vehicle before he was shot multiple times overnight in Sydney’s south west.

Police were called to Cooper Rd at Yagoona after witnesses said the 28-year-old man had been assaulted before he was forced into a car.

He had been shot in the chest and torso. Police said he had also suffered multiple lacerations and head injuries

He was treated at the scene by paramedics before he was taken to hospital to undergo surgery.

Police are concerned that someone else could have been hurt during the shooting, which was reported by a resident who heard a man screaming in the street.

A white Holden Commodore in which the 28-year-old man was believed to be conveyed in, was later found burnt out in Bibby St, Carlton, around 12.30am.

Bankstown Police commander Detective Superintendent Murray Reynolds said they are concerned for the injured man’s welfare and will ensure he is safe.

“We acknowledge this is a despicable and cowardly crime and we will make sure that no innocent members of the community are injured in such attacks,” he said.

“This is a horrific crime where a man was shot on the street and dragged into a car.”

Det Supt Murray Reynolds said the 28-year-old man and his attackers knew each other.

“This is not a random attack and the two parties were known to each other,” he said.

“Clearly they are in conflict with each other.”

He said they are looking for three men who could help them with their inquiries and said officers from the state crime squad and St George Police Area Command are involved in the investigation.

He said the injured man has spoken to police and is expected to speak to them again.

Police have not released any details about which type of gun was used.
