A man has drowned near Byron Bay and two boys have been rushed to hospital in Sydney’s north in a horror afternoon on the state’s coast.
Paramedics rushed to New Brighton Beach, near Byron Bay, around 1pm following reports a 28-year-old man had collapsed after returning to shore. Another man, 27, had been pulled from the water unresponsive.
“Surf Lifesavers and an off-duty nurse pulled the man from the water and performed CPR until NSW Ambulance paramedics arrived; however, the 27-year-old could not be revived,” police confirmed in a statement Monday afternoon.
The 28-year-old man was taken to Tweed Hospital in a stable condition.
Meanwhile, two teenage boys aged 13 and 14 have been rushed to Westmead Hospital after an incident at Clifton Gardens, a popular swimming spot near Mosman on the lower north shore of Sydney Harbour.
The boys got into trouble in the water on Monday afternoon, 7 News reported, with at least one of the pair falling unconscious.
A witness described seeing one of the teenagers sitting upright and talking. Both are now being described as being in a ‘satisfactory’ condition in hospital.
The incidents come on the same day an off-duty police officer died saving his 14-year-old son from a rip on the NSW south coast.
