A man has died and another has been charged with murder after an altercation at a unit on a suburban street in Auburn.
NSW Police have launched a major investigation into the man’s death after he and another man allegedly became involved in an incident on Richmond Ave about 7.30pm.
Paramedics were called to the scene where they worked on one of the men, believed to be aged in his 50s, but he was pronounced dead a short time later.
Police then took the second man, Rory Schade, into custody.
The 32-year-old was charged with murder and refused bail to appear at Burwood Local Court on Thursday.
It will be alleged that the two men are known to each other, but it is unclear what their relationship is.
A crime scene was established which has been forensically examined and detectives with the assistance of the State Crime Command’s Homicide Squad commenced an investigation under Strike Force Youngee.
A post-mortem will be conducted to determine the cause of death.
Inquiries under Strike Force Youngee continue.
A resident of the street, which was still covered with police on Thursday morning, said she was good friends with 50 year-old victim, who would always “ride his bike” around the area.
“He (was) the sweetest person. Soft hearted and soft-spoken,” Neighbour Korkoi Aranh said through tears and clutching at her chest on Thursday morning.
“He was such a nice person. He doesn’t deserve this.
“Last night was so sad.”
Ms Aranh said she chatted with her neighbour just two days prior to his death.
“I was just speaking to him two days ago. I was trying to ask him about his pump for his bike.
“We went to his garage and that was the last time I saw him.”
She said the man lived by himself however recently had a “visitor.”
“A young guy who was visiting him. We’re not sure if he was living with him or not,” she said.
“I did see him, a total stranger and I thought, you don’t belong here.
“He (the victim) has got no family. A lot of people here don’t have families.”
Ms Aranh said she saw the young “visitor” the day prior to the incident also.
She said it was not the first time the street had been rocked by death in recent years.
“My neighbour called me and said there’s cops on the street and I thought not the cops again,” she said.
“We had two people die on the street.”
Nearby resident Jack Huang and his mother said they were “shocked” when confronted with the news of the death across the road.
“It’s very concerning,” he said.
“It’s really upsetting.
“It’s kind of crazy this has just happened across the street. It’s not something we expect to happen.”
Mr Huang said he was on his way to the gym on Wednesday night when informed by police he would be unable to leave his home.
“The whole road was blocked with five cops cars and a few ambulance as well,” he said.
“I was like okay there’s something big happening.”
The 21 year – old said his family often heard arguing at the apartment complex.
