A man allegedly pretended to be a police officer and took photographs of women across Sydney as part of a fake investigation.
Police allege the 33-year-old approached several women at residential addresses and in public, producing false identification to pretend he was a detective and telling the women he was conducting an investigation.
On several occasions he asked to photograph the women, and in one incident asked a woman to give him her shoes, which he sniffed before returning them to her, police allege.
The man was arrested about 11:40pm on Monday after police searched a unit on Redmyre Rd, Strathfield, seizing a number of items including a mobile phone allegedly containing images of women’s feet.
He was charged with three counts of aggravated impersonation of police and two counts of impersonating a police officer, and given conditional bail to appear in Burwood Local Court on June 1.
Police investigations are continuing and anyone with further information is urged to contact Crime Stoppers.
