Man charged with arson, drug supply and weapons offences after fire at Oak Flats home

A late-night blaze at a home on the NSW South Coast has led to the arrest of a man now facing serious charges, including arson, drug supply and weapons offences.

A man has been charged with arson, drug supply and weapons offences following a suspicious fire at a home in the state’s south earlier this year.

Emergency services were called to Fisher St, Oak Flats, at about 2.30am on February 12, after reports of a fire in the backyard of a home.

A 39-year-old man living at the property was able to extinguish the blaze at the rear before noticing a second fire near the electricity box at the front of the home.

Fire and Rescue NSW crews arrived shortly after and put out the second fire. No injuries were reported.

Following an investigation, a 46-year-old man attended Lake Illawarra Police Station on June 11, where he was arrested.

He was charged with damage property by fire, use of a prohibited weapon contrary to a prohibition order, and supply of prohibited drugs.

The man was refused bail to appear before Wollongong Thursday, June 12.
