TWO women fought off an alleged sexual attacker who allegedly used a couchsurfing app to detain and assault them in two separate incidents in Sydney’s south.
Wolli Creek man Mahmudul Bobbe, 30, has been charged with two counts of attempted rape, two counts of indecent assault and two counts of detaining someone for advantage after the alleged attacks.
Police say Bobbe met a 27-year-old Japanese woman through the couchsurfing app on August 16 before he allegedly touched her breasts and vagina and attempted to rape her in the basement carpark of a Wolli Creek unit block.
According to police, the Japanese woman fought him off before running from the car.
Two days later Bobbe met a 38-year-old Brazilian woman in The Rocks who sought accommodation from him through the app.
Police allege Bobbe drove the woman to Audley Weir near Engadine in the Royal National Park and grabbed her breasts before attempting to remove her pants and rape her.
The woman flagged down a passing motorist before reporting the matter to Sutherland Shire police.
Bobbe was taken into custody on Sunday night after an alleged police pursuit on the Princes Highway from Blakehurst to Carss Park, after which he was also charged with a police pursuit, reckless driving and mid-range drink driving.
He was interviewed at St George police station in relation to the alleged indecent assaults and breath-tested, returning the mid-range reading of 0.105.
Bobbe will remain in custody until he next appears at Sutherland Local Court on October 15.
Bobbe’s solicitor told the court Bobbe, who hails from Bangladesh, was married but separated and was unemployed due to an injury.
