His speed was clocked at 60km/h. He was issued with a $330 fine and deducted four demerit points.
“Driving is a complex task. Anything that takes your mind or eyes off the road, or your hands off the wheel, not only compromises your safety, but that of everyone else on the road,” a Highway Patrol Command spokesman said.
Being distracted increases your chances of having a crash. It slows down your reaction times and puts you in danger of failing to see hazards such as traffic lights, stop signs or other road users, including pedestrians and cyclists.
Motorists are urged to take it easy on the roads this Queen’s Birthday long weekend with double demerits expected to sting many unsuspecting rule breakers.
The NSW Police four-day road safety blitz Operation Stay Alert started today at 12.01am and will end on Monday, June 11, at 11.59pm.
