Man arrested after five-hour police pursuit with child on board

THE man allegedly at the centre of the five-hour long police pursuit from Wyong to Sydney’s west — with a two-year-old boy on board, has been charged with a long list of offences.

THE man allegedly at the centre of the five-hour long police pursuit from Wyong to Sydney’s west — with a two-year-old boy on board, has been charged with a long list of offences.

NSW Police Riot Squad, uniforms and unmarked police cars joined PolAir after a Wyong man fled after police tried to serve an outstanding warrant.

Tuggerah Lakes officers attended an address in Wyong about 11am Thursday to serve a warrant on a man, believed to be in his 40s.

The man fled on foot, taking his two-year-old son with him, in a Hino truck.

Police started a road pursuit but pulled out short time later and the man was followed by PolAir.

Road police rejoined the pursuit about 3pm as the man drive around Yagoona and Bass Hill, finally coming to a stop in Colechin St after his petrol ran out.

Police pounced on the man and took the child into custody.

The alleged driver was taken to Bankstown Police Station where he was charged with two outstanding warrants for assault and firearm offences, three counts of use of offensive weapon to prevent lawful detention, police pursuit for not stopping/driving recklessly, use of unregistered vehicle, driving while licence suspended, two counts of not give particulars to other driver, two counts of destroy or damage to property and driving while child was not restrained.

He has been refused bail and is set to appear at Bankstown Local Court today.

Tuggerah Lakes Police Chief Inspector Colin Lott said the safety of the young child was paramount and was relieved not no one was injured during the incident.

“Police are pleased nobody was hurt and of corse the safety of the child was paramount,” he said.

“It could have been a lot worse.”
