Bankstown City Plaza fire: Police arrest 59-year-old man

Police were tipped off after a fire burned an office building in Bankstown plaza overnight, arresting a 59-year-old man in the early hours.

Fire destroys businesses in Bankstown

A man has been arrested after an office in Bankstown was burnt down overnight.

Emergency services were called to the Bankstown City Plaza around 3.30am after reports the office of a law firm on the first floor was on fire.

Police said in a statement at 6.45am that FRNSW were still working to extinguish the blaze but the office was destroyed and adjourning businesses were damaged.

A 59-year-old man was arrested at a home in Bowden Boulevard, Yagoona, around 4am.

He was taken to Bankstown Police Station for further questioning.

Bankstown City Plaza is closed between North and South Terraces. Train services have not been impacted but buses were unable to access Bankstown station bus interchange due to a building fire and are being diverted. Train services have not been impacted
