Man, 34, charged after woman, 74, was left beaten on floor for 16 hours inside Sydney home

A former employee of 74-year old swimming instructor Rose Agius has allegedly kicked her unconscious and robbed her in her Lugarno home. Joshua Petranker, 34, has been charged over the incident in Sydney’s south overnight.

A 34-year-old man has been charged after allegedly beating an elderly woman at Lugarno, who runs a swim school for young children in Peakhurst.

Police will allege 74-year old Rose Agius found former employee, Joshua Petranker in her bedroom about 5pm on Wednesday.

Police claim Agius was punched and kicked until she was unconscious and left on the floor of her Woodlands Avenue home for 16 hours.

Police will allege a large amount of money had been stolen.

Petranker was a former part-time swim coach for Rose’s swim school.

John Thomas who used to manage the swimming pool says Rose took Joshua under her wing. “He was bit of a lost soul and she took a shine to him, tried to look out for him,” said Thomas.

Emergency services did not find the woman until 9am on Thursday when she was taken to St George Hospital for treatment for head injuries.

Petranker was arrested on Thursday on Forest Rd, Peakhurst and has been charged with aggravated break and enter and commit serious indictable offence inflicting actual bodily harm.

Police have also seized a number of the man’s items for forensic examination.

His bail was refused to appear in Sutherland Local Court today.
