Competition for cosmetics is heating up in Sydney’s northwest where a make-up heavyweight is jostling for shoppers’ dollars in a major mall.

Make-up giant Sephora has plans to open at Castle Towers, which will be a haven for shoppers searching for cosmetics following the introduction of its competitor Mecca at the mall in 2019.

The French multinational retailer Sephora is due to open opposite Target on level two but a date has not been confirmed.

Plans are still gaining momentum with a development application lodged with Hills Shire Council recently.

Papers show plans for a beauty studio and an area to sample products from its line of make-up, fragrance, body and hair care.

Since Dominique Mandonnaud founded Sephora in France in 1970, the chain has expanded globally with 1900 stores in 29 countries.

It made its Australian debut at the Pitt St store in central Sydney in December 2014.

Luxury goods company LVMH Moët Hennessy Louis Vuitton owns the chain.

Castle Towers general manager Craig Brown has welcomed the retailer to the centre.

“We are thrilled to be welcoming Sephora to Castle Towers soon, with the 300sq m-plus store further expanding our already-stellar range of beauty, cosmetics and lifestyle offers at the centre,” he said.

“We look forward to sharing further details about Sephora’s opening with our community in the near future.’’

Away from the cosmetics offerings, Castle Towers will welcome eateries Brooklyn Donuts, Yori Yori, Kurimu Japanese pastries and Godiva luxury chocolates.

“We continue to experience strong demand for retail space, and our team remains hard at work to ensure we deliver shopping, entertainment, lifestyle and dining experiences that meet the needs of our dynamic community,’’ Mr Brown said.
