Major delays as car smashes into power pole in Homebush

IT’S carnage on NSW roads today after yet another person has died this morning in a two-vehicle crash.
The woman was driving south of Gunning in the NSW Southern Tablelands at about 9am.
A white Hiace van was travelling south on the Hume Highway when it slammed into a heavy vehicle travelling in the same direction.
The female driver of the van died at the scene. Police said no further details were known at this time.
Earlier this morning, motorists were urged to expect long delays after a car hit a major power pole at Homebush in Sydney’s inner west.
A Traffic Management Centre spokesman told The Daily Telegraph today that the incident happened just after 4.30am on Parramatta Road and Bridge Road.
He said he was unaware of the condition of the male driver.
“I would suspect the road will be back to normal by midday today,” he said.
“It was a single vehicle crash that knocked down a power pole, which has wires to CCTV on it — it’ll take three hours or so to fix that.
“Other traffic signals are working and we’ve sorted out one laneway for traffic travelling in both directions.”

The accidents come after a horror holiday roads toll in NSW with the period claiming 21 lives so far.
Among the tragedy is Home and Away actor Jessica Falkholt and her sister Annabelle, who are fighting for their lives after their parents died in a fiery head-on smash at Sussex Inlet in NSW.
This year’s state’s road toll is 388 making it the deadliest since 2009.
Police have issued 50,252 infringements including catching 13,430 speeding drivers, with a driver caught doing 160km/h through the 60km/h works zone outside the new Frenchs Forest hospital.
In a separate incident, a man has been charged today over a fatal crash involving a BMW and a taxi in Thunderbolts Way, Walcha, about 10.45pm on Saturday.
The 27-year-old was charged with dangerous driving occasioning death, negligent driving occasioning death, and two counts of cause bodily harm by misconduct while driving a vehicle.
The man’s licence was suspended and he was given strict conditional bail to appear before Armidale Local Court in February 2018.
