‘You’re out!’: fallout to shock MAFS ‘mistake’

The state’s workplace safety regulator is investigating Nine Network’s hit TV show Married At First Sight after a controversial episode aired last week.

On Wednesday night’s episode, MAFS groom Paul Antoine, 30, allegedly punched a wall in frustration after his “wife” and fellow MAFS showrunner Carina Mirabile told him she’d had a fling with American rapper Quavo before their onscreen nuptials.

SafeWork NSW acting deputy secretary Trent Curtin told a budget estimates hearing on Monday that the watchdog was now investigating the incident.

“We’ve had a request … to also look into it,” he said.

“We have allocated that to an inspector, the inspector will make inquiries – probably with NSW Police.”

This comes after NSW Police confirmed they were conducting an official investigation into the TV show after the incident.

While the punch allegedly occurred off-camera, it was discussed during the episode, at which Mr Antoine confessed to the act, expressing his regret to other contestants.

“I threw a punch in our bedroom door,” he said on the show.

“I lost control and I punched a hole in the bedroom door. It’s just not the right thing to do. It’s unacceptable, it’s disgusting. I’m still hating myself for doing this.

“I’ve apologised to Carina multiple times.”

“The matter has been referred to officers from South Sydney Police Area Command, who have commenced an investigation,” a NSW Police spokesperson said.

“’As the investigation is current, police will not be making any further comment in relation to the matter.”

Nine has been contacted for comment.
