Mackenzie Blake: Tributes to Blaxland road death woman

A 21-year-old has been remembered as a kind, gentle and generous young woman with her best years ahead of her after being hit and killed by a truck.

Coping with grief

Tributes have been paid to a young woman who was killed when she was hit by a vehicle last week.

Mackenzie Blake, 21, was walking through Blaxland on November 1 when she was hit and killed by a truck.

A GoFundMe page has been created for Ms Blake with friends, family and strangers raising more than $27,000 by Monday lunchtime.

“While no one can fill the void that Mackenzie has left, there are ways that we as a community can ease the financial burden that comes with losing a loved one,” family friend Beck Culver, who created the page, said.

“This fund is being set up so that Mackenzie‘s family has one less thing to worry about at this overwhelming time.

“All donations will go to the Blake family to assist with funeral costs, and even the smallest of donations will help.”

As well as donations from individuals and families, there have also been significant donations from Nextgen Electrical and Blaxland McDonalds, where she worked.

Among those to have paid their respects on the page include Grace Camilleri.

“I’m so sorry macka packa,” she wrote. “I still can remember hanging out with you and laughing and having such a great time. You are missed very very dearly by everyone.”

“I got the privilege of meeting Mackenzie from my time working at McDonald’s,” Mia Church added. “From my first day, I remember her friendly smile and caring nature towards others. She was incredibly lovely. My condolences go out to the Blake family during this very unfortunate time.”

Melissa White said: “Such a tragedy – our thoughts are with Mackenzie’s family during this difficult time- the impact of this loss has been far reaching which shows what a remarkable young lady she was.”

Kerry Gordon, Licensee at McDonald’s Blaxland, also paid her respects to the “loved” employee.

“Our thoughts and deepest condolences are with Mackenzie’s family and friends,” she said. “We loved having her as part of our Blaxland team and she will be sorely missed.”

Even those who did not know Ms Blake have paid tribute and left donations.

“I donate because I am a stranger who drove past a life that had ended in the town I live,” Michael Pinkus said.

“The kindness of strangers can take some of the financial burden off the family. My condolences to Mackenzie‘s family and friends R. I. P Mackenzie.”
