Station locations confirmed for Western Sydney's new metro

The exact locations of the new Western Sydney Airport Metro stations have been revealed with six sites chosen for the transport mega-project, expected to cost about $11 billion.

The federal and state government will on Sunday announce the six stations will be located at St Marys under the existing train station, Orchard Hills on the eastern side of Kent Road, Luddenham near Luddenham Road, the Airport Business Park south of Elizabeth Drive, Western Sydney Aerotropolis east of Badgerys Creek Road at Bringelly and at the new airport’s terminal.

Property-owners impacted by the new stations were door knocked by transport authorities on Friday with one commercial building and 19 residential properties, which includes 12 in Orchard Hills, being acquired.

A further four vacant sites will also be acquired along with partial land acquisitions of 16 properties.

NSW Premier Gladys Berejiklian said: “The Sydney Metro – Western Sydney Airport project will support 14,000 jobs, including 250 apprentices and inject billions of dollars to the NSW and Australian economies.”

Work on the 23-kilometre driverless railway line is expected to start later this year and would “become the transport spine for the Western Parkland City”, NSW Transport Minister Andrew Constance said.

“This is a city-shaping development with metro at its heart,” Mr Constance said.

“It will connect the future Aerotropolis’ high-skill employment hub, to residential areas, the new airport and the rest of Sydney’s public transport network.”

Federal Population, Cities and Urban Infrastructure Minister Alan Tudge said the mega-project was “being fast-tracked to help our economy recover from COVID- 19”.

“Western Sydney residents will reap the benefits of this investment well before the first train leaves the station,” Mr Tudge said.

The new railway line is expected to open in 2026, in time to service the new Nancy-Bird Walton (Western Sydney International) Airport.

The Aerotropolis and airport are expected to create 200,000 new jobs across a range of industries including freight and logistics, tourism and research, defence and aerospace and manufacturing.

The population of the Western Parkland City, which covers the Blue Mountains, Camden, Campbelltown, Fairfield, Hawkesbury, Liverpool, Penrith and Wollondilly, is also projected to grow to more than 1.5 million by 2056.

The state government is also planning to extend the metro in the future, linking it to Schofields in north-west Sydney and Macarthur in the south-west.
