FOOTBALL : Willowburn is a club that takes great pride in its traditions and history.

And no matter the game or competition, the club likes to produce teams that play with the right attitude and a desire to win.

Lining up at centre back in the Magpies Toowoomba Football Leagues Premier Men’s team, captain Beau Partridge said it was an honour to play a role in adding to the club’s history.

“With the club playing in Brisbane again this year, I made the decision to stay and play in the TFL,” he said.

“We don’t have the experience we have in the past, but the heart and the commitment is there.

“I wanted to be able to share my experience, help develop the young players we have and it was a real honour when I was named captain.

“As a club, the goal has always be to produce competitive winning teams, so I don’t feel any extra pressure as captain, I just want to do my part, I like to lead by example.

“I’m not the type of bloke who will sit there and yell out orders.

“I’ll get in there and do my part.”

Willowburn play host to USQ FC tomorrow, eager to back up their winning performance against St Albans last round.

“We didn’t start well against Saints,” Partridge said.

“We were not ourselves and were down 2-0 at halftime.

“We had a bit of an honest chat at the break and were a lot better after that.

“The boys pulled it together, and we got the win 3-2.

“USQ is going to be a bit of unknown for this weekend.

“You don’t know how everyone is after the break.

“If we play our game, keep possession and build from the back, I think we’re in with a good shot.

“That’s the most important thing – playing your own game -whenever you play football.”

USQ and Willowburn will face-off in three matches at Commonwealth Oval with the Premier Women starting the day at 11am.
