FOOTBALL : When Henry Wells was told to expect a phone call from TGS headmaster Peter Hauser his immediate thought was that of any young schoolboy.
"Straight away I thought did I do something wrong or what did I forget," Wells said.
"The reason he was calling though was to ask if I would accept the position of First XI captain.
"My teammates voted for me as captain and to receive that call from headmaster made it all the more special.
"I've captained other teams before but this (the First XI) is a real honour and a privilege.
"Tradition and culture are very important parts of GPS sport at Grammar and I'm looking forward to being a part of that."
Tradition, culture and a heavy dose of team camaraderie are the reasons Wells laces up his football boots every day.
" (TGS director of football) Peter Broadfoot saw me at the state championships and asked my parents if I'd like to join Grammar," Wells, who calls Mackay home, said.
"I started at Grammar in year 10.
"I've played football all my life but the step up from club footy in Mackay to GPS and NPL was massive.
"Between Grammar and the South West Queensland Thunder I'm pretty much playing or training seven days a week but I love it.
"The culture, the tradition and the camaraderie of the entire football program at Grammar is fantastic - it motivates you to do better all the time.
"We don't have as much experience in the team this year but I still think we're a great side.
"Everyone is contributing in their own way, it's a new chapter for all of us, we're adding to the traditions that are already in place as well as honouring them."
Wells will lead from the front for Grammar, hoping to use his size and speed to dictate play, but he is also eager to draw on his team's physical and mental strengths.
"When I joined Grammar I was actually a centre back," he said.
"But within a pretty quick time frame I was moved upfront to play in the number nine - striker and I love it.
"I'm a bit bigger than a lot of the strikers in GPS and I like to get in there and mix it up with the defenders.
"I like to score goals but it's also important to bring my teammates into the game if they're in a better position."
