AS sport continues to build in Toowoomba, performances that leave you in awe keep rolling in.
The Chronicle looks at five that excelled across the fields of the Darling Downs at the weekend.
KRISTI SKUSE (RED LION HOCKEY)
You could’ve built a brick wall in goal for Red Lion and it would’ve had less effect than Kristi Skuse.
The goalkeeper was at her best in the second round of the COVID Cup, blocking everything in sight and earning praise from her opposite coach for Rangeville.
TONY AND MADDYSEN SEARS (HORSE TRAINERS)
Co-trainers Tony and Maddysen Sears were on fire on Saturday, with Eleuthera getting the chocolates at Clifford Park.
That win backed up three victories at Ipswich and the Gold Coast for the father-daughter team, giving them four winners from five starters for the day.
MEG PULLINGER (TOOWOOMBA TIGERS AFL)
Missing in round one, the Toowoomba Tigers strike weapon was back with a vengeance at the weekend.
Pullinger slotted home five majors as the defending premiers got back into their winning ways against South Burnett.
DANIEL BURNS (GATTON REDBACKS FOOTBALL)
It took just 16 minutes for Daniel Burns to snatch away any hope Hawks had of victory at the weekend.
After opening the scoring in the 37th minute, the Gatton Redbacks striker scored twice more (41st, 53rd) and Gatton won the game 5-1.
Burns has now scored four goals in as many games.
MITCHELL FRANCIS (SOUTH BURNETT SAINTS AFL)
It was a devastating blow for the Toowoomba Tigers, but Mitchell Francis’ goal with less than a minute from time gave South Burnett its first lead of the game, and a winning lead at that.
It was his second successive haul of three goals as the Saints sit in a share of first place atop the Allied Pickfords Cup ladder.
