GRIDIRON: Fresh after their maiden win of the Gridiron Queensland season, the Toowoomba Valleys Vultures are hoping to chalk up another victory on their home turf tomorrow.

The Vultures will welcome the Griffith Thunder to Herb Steinohrt Oval with high stakes on offer.

A win and results in the other games across the weekend would see the Vultures move into a share of fourth position on four competition points heading into next weekend’s final regular season round.

The Thunder got the better of the two sides to the tune of 42-0 when they met back in round four, however coach Andrew Seddon believes a recent change in fortunes at the club has them in a much better position.

“The Thunder have a really good quarterback and one really good receiver,” Seddon said.

“If we can shut them down we’ll go a long way.

“Their defence hasn’t been overly good for them this year, so the key for us this weekend is to try and shut down their offence as best we can.

“If they can’t score points it makes it a lot easier for us.”

Seddon identifies the importance for the defence standing up tomorrow, as it did last weekend in their 14-6 defeat of Logan City.

The defensive unit conceded just one touchdown, as well as forcing a safety in a polished display.

“That win was set up by our defence,” Seddon said.

“They played unbelievable, and even though we conceded a touchdown off a kick-off, they were barely able to get the ball in our half, and we spent a lot of the game in theirs.”

Toowoomba Valleys Vultures take on the Griffth Thunder at Herb Steinohrt Oval at 4pm tomorrow.
