USQ FC and Rockville the teams to watch in TFL 2020

Some familiar faces have dominated the Football Toowoomba premiership landscape over the past few years.

FOOTBALL : Some familiar faces have dominated the Football Toowoomba premiership landscape over the past few years.

In the women’s competition, long-time rivals Rockville and Willowburn have been the benchmark by which all other teams judge themselves.

In 2018, Willowburn was undefeated on their way to the premiership, but it was Rockville who claimed the title in 2019.

Willowburn has also been a near permanent fixture in the Premier men’s title race alongside USQ FC.

Things are different this year though with key players and coaches moving on – the balance of power has shifted.

Here we take a look at our Premier and Women contenders as well as the competition dark horses.

Premier Men

Willowburn and USQ FC lost their premiership winning coaches and some key players at the end of the 2019.

Neither team should be ruled out, though, with their culture playing a key role in their success over the past few seasons.

The competition should be wary of a Rockville outfit determined to cap their 50th year with a title – in 2019 they could dominate on their day and 2020 will be no different.

Premier women

If you’re not looking at USQ FC this season, you should be.

The club left their premiership run a little too late in 2019, but they proved they could match it with the best the TFL has to offer.

USQ FC picked up a number of handy players in the off-season, and coach Andrew Simshauser has his team playing a stylish brand of football.

Rockville and Willowburn will be near the top as usual, but they should be wary of a surging USQ FC.
