CRICKET: Northern Brothers Diggers have ensured a top-three spot approaching the break in the TCI A-grade competition.

Picking up where they left off on the opening day, with Kris Glass' unbeaten 126 leading them to a declaration of 6/304.

Solid top-order knocks from Pat Bourke (38 runs) and Alex Taylor (37) helped University along through the early stages to 1/63, before Diggers started to claim ascendancy.

A strong bowling partnership between Connor Philp (2/46) and Derek Nitschke (4/85) saw three quick wickets fall as University slipped to 4/80.

Will Gordon (26), Adrian Delaney (23) and Rick Smith (26) offered some resistance towards the back end of the innings, however they were unable to hold out a strong bowling attack, as they were dismissed for 193, giving Diggers a first innings victory by 111 runs.

They now trail second-placed Metropolitan-Easts by just seven points, and find themselves 17 points off ladder leaders Western Districts.

Highfields-Railways stayed in fourth spot following a six wicket defeat of Southern Districts.

A Kurtley Nielsen ton spearheaded the charge as they chased down 231 runs.
