In a match that called on all the resolve of the squad, The Chronicle looks at the top three performers from the Langer Cup qualifier.
XAVIER VA’A (FRONT ROW)
A real captain’s knock from the imposing front rower.
Va’a led from the front with the ball in hand, consistently getting St Mary’s on the front foot and attracting multiple defenders.
He was rewarded for his efforts with a crucial try in the second half that gave his side breathing room at 30-18.
KEANU WRIGHT-DUNROBIN (FULLBACK)
Chose his times to chime in to perfection.
With experience in the halves, Wright-Dunrobin’s positional play at fullback was near-perfect, slotting himself into the backline in the second half to set up Angus Wright for two tries to close out the contest.
Got the scoring underway when latching onto a Blake Moore grubber.
BLAKE MOORE (FIVE-EIGHTH)
Forms a formidable partnership with halfback Brayden Paix that will cause a lot of problems for opposition schools.
Wasn’t afraid to take the line on, highlighted by his try out of dummy half in the first half.
Made smart decisions in defence and led the attack of St Mary’s from the front, getting his team into great shape.
