Fundraisers have long been the backbone of the charity, helping grow the coffers to be able to provide support to those in need in the league community.
Last week the Toowoomba branch was able to return to some semblance of normality, hosting at bowls day at the North Toowoomba Bowls Club.
“We had a lot of good supporters there. People came from Brisbane, Lockyer and Dalby to support the day,” Men of League Foundation Toowoomba region president Tony Coonan said.
“There were about 70 players and another 30 supporters there on the day. They come from everywhere to be a part of it.
“People have donations for raffles and auctions, and as soon as we say Men of League, people will show their support.
“It’s our first post-COVID event, and people are still concerned, so it was one of our quietest bowls days.
“A lot of planning is needed in advance, and a lot of businesses that generally support are still under the pump.”
Coonan said getting back to their fundraising roots was of vital importance to help them carry out their lines of help and support.
“We’ve got different ways of support, like memberships and fundraising so we can financially support people,” he said.
“Sometimes people just need visits and emotional support, which is what Andrew O’Brien looks after.
“We’ve got contacts all over the TRL region putting in so much work.
“It’s a great thing to be involved in. It’s the good story of rugby league, what the Men of League does for the community.”
The next fundraiser comes in the form of a golf day at Dalby on 13 November. For more information head to: https://menofleague.com/events/.
