BOXING : The IBF Australasian Super Lightweight title fight is the type of clash boxing fans dream of.

Champion Steve Spark (9-1) has won all of his fights by way of knockout and his opponent Michael Whitehead (7-3-1) has never been stopped inside 10 rounds.

Both fighters however are confident they have the skills to win the fight.

“There’d be no point showing up if I wasn’t confident,” Whitehead said.

“Steve’s a great fighter but I want the win.

“As a fighter you figure it out on the night, you don’t go into a fight choosing how it’s going to go.

“It’s a bit like a tradie going out to a broken down car on the highway.

“You take all your tools with you and pick the right ones for the job.”

Spark dreams of one day fighting for a world title but his remains firmly on the here and now.

“We’re both at crossroads,” Spark said.

“No doubt Michael has the same goals as me and who ever wins this fight will push on.

“I plan on staying champion though.

“I train for 10 rounds and if the knockout comes that’s just a bonus.

“If it goes the ten rounds I’m happy to stay in there and box his ears off.”

Spark is also looking forward to fighting in the familiar surroundings of his home gym.

“I’d have taken this fight anywhere,” he said.

“But having it here (Smithy’s TGW Gym) is going to be extra special.”

The Locked Down Lights Up card will be on Epicentre. TV with a small crowd allowed into the venue in line with COVID-19 restrictions.
