CRICKET: The GPS cricket premiership hopes of Toowoomba Grammar took a hit following their third-straight defeat at the weekend.

On the road to Nudgee College, TGS made a promising start as the home side opted to bat.

Dan Brown (4/27) and Mitch Doolan (2/28) fired early, helping to take the early ascendancy at 6/80.

Nudgee’s tail wagged however, getting them to a respectable total of 141.

Jem Ryan (1/17 off eight overs) and Joseph Wood (1/19 off eight overs) were also economical for the visitors.

Harry Meiklejohn (18) and Tom Sippel (28) formed a promising 40-run opening partnership, but things didn’t go to plan from that point on, with the Nudgee College attack firing to dismiss TGS for 118.

Jem Ryan added spirited 24 runs from 21 deliveries, including four boundaries.

The loss sees Grammar drop to sixth on the ladder, however they have a game in hand over a number of teams above them.

The side will return home this weekend to take on Brisbane State High School at Mills Oval.

It shapes as a golden opportunity for Grammar to return to the winner’s circle, with BSHS coming into the contest with just one win.
