MUAY THAI : The thrill of winning her first Queensland title will drive Holly Nguyen forward in 2020.
Fresh off her Australian Muay Thai Nationals win, the Toowoomba fighter has added the QLD ISKA Junior 48kg belt to her trophy cabinet after beating Brooke Jenkyn-betje.
“This is my first Queensland title which is pretty exciting,” Nguyen said.
“It’s really satisfying when all the hard work and preparation in your training camp pays off with a win.
“This was pretty much a 12-week prep because I went from the Australian titles to the Queensland titles.”
With coach Leon Spain working to find Nguyen another fight ahead of her Australian team duties later this year in Bangkok, the Toowoomba teen said her love for the sport has gone from strength to strength.
“The fights are getting harder as I come up against more experienced fighters,” she said.
“It’s all worth it though.
“Being able to represent myself, my gym and my country in the ring is great.
“I do feel the pressure when I’m in the Australian team but at the same time I want to show people what Australians are capable of.”
