FOOTBALL: The Thunder is calling on Toowoomba to “paint Clive Berghofer Stadium” blue this weekend.
SWQ Thunder chairman Luke Stenhouse is eager to make the club’s FQPL semi-final clash a memorable occasion for the players and supporters.
“We want Clive Berghofer Stadium to be a sea of royal blue,” he said. “Shirts, wigs, face paint, dresses; as long as it’s royal blue.
“We were excited when Football Queensland gave us the green light to host one of the finals.
“It (finals football) is a great occasion and we’d love to see a big crowd there to support the boys.
“It’s worked out really well, because we’ll be having our junior awards earlier in the day at the stadium.
“They’ll finish up in time for the kids and their parents to enjoy the game, but we’re still encouraging and welcoming as many people as possible to get down to the ground.”
An FQPL grand final win would cap off what has been a challenging but also rewarding season for the club.
“It’s been a big year right across the board for the club,” Stenhouse said.
“When you get relegated, you worry you might not be top of the division below – we showed up though.
“We actually finished with the most wins in the competition, and what is just a little unfortunate is that we dropped a few results and didn’t finish first.
“We’ve had some fantastic results in our junior boys and girls as well.
“The things that pleases me the most at the junior level though is the attitude of the players and the style of football we’re playing.
“It’s attractive, positive football and our coaches deserve credit for that.
“When you look our juniors I think it’s safe to say we have a very bright future.”
GAME DAY: Today, Clive Berghofer Stadium, 5pm
