Striking grey Rosie Posie becomes the first horse since Belfyer to achieve Warwick Cup double

RACING: Rosie Posie has joined illustrious company in securing back-to-back wins in the Warwick Credit Union Warwick Cup (1500m).

A crowd favourite due to her near-white coat, she’s building a reputation as a punter’s pal as well, scoring as the $3.40 second favourite.

Just three weeks after claiming the Dalby Cup for trainer Matt Kropp, apprentice Kate Cowan again secured a gun run from barrier four, sitting behind a solid tempo set by Shauquin ($6.50).

Cowan peeled her to the middle of the track in the straight, using her customary turn of foot to win by three quarters of a length from Yaba Dabl Doya ($21), with Scrabble ($18) rounding out the placings for Kropp.

After claiming victory in last year’s edition, it puts her alongside 2016 and 2017 winner Belflyer, who famously took out the first running of the $1.3m Kosciuszko at Royal Randwick.

“She had a beautiful run, and has done a super job,” Kropp said.

“(Owners) Michael and Val (Kelly) are super proud of her, and Kate Cowan’s rides have been terrific.
“She’s always had that good turn of foot, and if you go too early, she can be a bit of a sitting duck. Kate’s worked her out.”

Jochberg ($3.20) was heavily supported into favouritism but was unable to come into it after being trapped wide throughout.

Few Too Many ($5.50) proved too strong in the Fraser Livestock Transport Warwick Newmarket Benchmark 70 Handicap (1100m).

Matthew Gray settled in a clear last on the six-year-old, before weaving a path through traffic in the home straight to score by a neat length from Colpo Di Tamburo ($4).

Justin Stanley took riding honours for the day, finishing with a double to bookend the program aboard Bracken and Wolff Boss.
