FOOTBALL: A deep squad list packed with talent has been the key to SWQ Thunder’s FQPL success this season.
There have however been a few standout players and they will be key to the team’s chances in the FQPL final this Friday against Logan Lightning.
Mirko Crociati (centre back)
The Thunder has always been able to score goals; their defence however has been caught short in previous seasons.
Crociati’s experience and leadership of a young backline has been invaluable this season.
With the Italian leading the line only two teams (Logan Lightning and Rochedale Rovers) have conceded less goals than the Thunder this season.
Crociati also knows how to pick out attackers with a good long ball.
Pasquale de Vita (midfield)
The crafty Italian has been unplayable at times this season with plenty of teams struggling to contain him.
If he is given time and space he will pick apart the Logan Lightning midfield and create plenty of problems for their defence.
His mazy runs often result in him fouled which again creates more problems for opposing teams and coaches in regards to how to limit his effect on the game.
Brodie Welch (forward)
The Thunder’s leading goalscorer has to be respected.
Whether he is sneaking in at the back or bringing down long balls, he knows his way to goal and how to score.
Welch also leads the Thunder’s defensive efforts – often pressuring his opponents into making mistakes.
