SCHOOL SPORT: St Ursula’s College has celebrated the achievements of its sporting fraternity at its annual awards evening.
The prestigious College Sportswoman of the Year was shared between Alysha Camm and Isabelle Mason.
Track athletics star Camm bounced back from an injury-riddled 2018 to claim silver medals at the All Schools in the 800m and 1500m last month.
Gun swimmer Mason swept the pool at the state titles, before captaining Queensland at the Australia School Sports Championships.
Both were also awarded the Olympic Change-maker (formerly Pierre de Coubertin award), recognising the impact they have had in their fields and at school.
The open basketball team was announced as co-winner of Team of the Year following an AAG Cup win in Toowoomba and ninth placed finish in the CBSQ competition.
The orienteering team continued their dominance of the secondary state titles, and were rewarded with a number of athletes securing representative honours.
Director of Sport Dan Fox said it was a fitting way to recognise the stellar year of the school’s students.
“We’re very pleased with the effort that the girls have put in,” Fox said.
“The main thing is the commitment of the girls, particularly those that have reached a high level, to make sure they are also performing academically at a high level.
“Isabelle is a top level swimmer, Emily Ward has played touch for Australia and Chloe Hutton is a part of the Brisbane Roar program.
“They are examples of girls that have to travel to Brisbane to train and compete, but they still work hard to balance their academic studies as well.
“The girls have loved representing the college.”
