The club’s senior women’s technical director, Kris Hemmerling, believes the biggest benefit for clubs will be in the age bracket changes.
“We’ve always had good numbers in under-14s and 16s,” he said.
“We have struggled a little in the under-18 bracket but the numbers have improved a little for us lately.
“Scraping the under-18 group for under-23s will make a big difference.
“It’s a big step into the NPLW – the game is a lot faster and the players a lot more skilful.
“I think the change will give younger players a few more seasons to develop and improve.”
Hemmerling also sees potential in the planned expansion of the NPLW QLD senior competition.
“The expansion will give more girls an opportunity to play and stay in game,” Hemmerling said.
“I think it and the addition of the second tier women’s competition will even out the playing field and talent as well.”
