FOOTBALL: Finals football is back in Toowoomba, and the SWQ Thunder are ready.

The FQPL side plays host to Mitchelton FC, and they head into the match with form and history on their side.

The Thunder will be eager to secure a fifth straight win in a run that has seen them score 13 goals – including a recent 4-0 over Mitchelton.

“We’re feeling pretty confident,” Thunder striker Brodie Welch said.

“We’ve got two results over them this season already, and I don’t see why we can’t get a third one.

“Everyone is really looking forward to the game.

“We had to explain how big finals football is to Mirko (Crociati) and Pasquale (de Vita), and once we had that talk they were fully on board.

“Being from Italy, they’re used to it being all about who finishes top at the end of the season.”

With the best attack and third best defence in the FQPL, the Thunder will a present an end-to-end challenge for the visitors.

“We’ve got the players to get the job done,” Welch said.

“Clarkie (Pierce Clark) has been great in goal this season, and Mirko is leading the defence well.

“We’ve got players all over the park who score as well.

“Anthony (Grant) always scores, Joe Scott has scored a few belters from distance this season, and I’ve snuck in at the back post a fair bit.

“We’ve got goals in our midfield as well.”

Despite their recent results and history with Mitchelton, Welch said the Thunder would not be able to rest on their laurels.

“They’re a ball playing side,” he said.

“They play positive attacking football, and if we want to beat them, it’s going to have start at the front for us.

“Ivor (Prasad) has had us playing a high press all season, and that’s going to be important against them.

“We will need to be up in their face the whole game.

“If we give them too much time and space, particularly in the middle, they’ll take advantage of it.”

GAME DAY: Saturday November 21, Clive Berghofer Stadium, 5pm
