BASEBALL: A ruthless Toowoomba side has maintained its flawless GBL division five record.

The B-grade Rangers prevailed 10-6 over the Mt Gravatt Eagles in the battle of the division’s two remaining undefeated sides at Commonwealth Oval.

In a top of the table clash, the Rangers flexed their muscles over the visitors, opening up an early lead and having a 10-2 advantage deep into the contest.

Player-coach Darryl Luchterhand said it was a dominant showing from his side as their winning run stretched to seven games.

“The score was a bit flattering towards the Eagles to be honest,” Luchterhand said.

“We made a couple of errors late in the game to let them back in the game. It could’ve easily been a 10-0 scoreline.

“Errors happen, and we’re still pretty happy with the outcome.

“They swung the bats really well, but we played some pretty good defence early on, and we were able to hit right through our line-up.

“It’s something we’ve spoken about. To put up big scores we need our lower order to put runners on base and that’s what we did.”

With two road games remaining before the Christmas break, Luchterhand said their goal is to remain perfect heading into the new year.

“That’s our focus,” he said.

“We’re really not even concentrating on opposition teams. We’re just worrying about ourselves.

“We know that if we play the way we can, we’re a big chance of winning every game. We try to work hard at training and reap the rewards on the field.”

In A-grade, the Rangers fell to their second-successive defeat after a 10-8 loss at Runcorn to Indians Mano.

A hot start with three first innings runs was counteracted by three of their own from the Indians, before two in the second and three in the fifth opened up a 8-3 advantage.

Toowoomba responded with a dynamic sixth innings which saw them drop five runs, however two from the Indians was enough to secure victory.

The C-grade Rangers made it seven wins from eight games with a 19-11 victory over Indians Mohican.
