BASKETBALL: The QBL is set for a shake-up in 2020, with the league to fall under the national banner.

Basketball Queensland and affiliate clubs agreed to undergo a brand change, with the league to be known as NBL1 North from next season onwards.

It follows on from the former SEABL competition in Victoria becoming the first state-wide competition to make the switch to the NBL1 banner this year.

The transition aims to create stronger links between state basketball competitions and the premier league in Australia, the NBL.

MARTIN DEPARTS MOUNTAINEERS

The Toowoomba Mountaineers men’s squad will be looking for two new imports for the 2020 QBL season, with Ricardo Martin departing the club.

The American forward has signed with Ringwood Hawks in Victoria’s NBL1 competition.

Martin joined Toowoomba this season, playing all 18 games and averaging 15.1 points and 4.9 rebounds per game.

It leaves the Mountaineers without any imports signed, following the early departure of Demetrius Perkins due to injury throughout the early stages of the season.
